Agave Americana Variegated

The Agave Americana plant forms a large rosette of twisted silvery-green leaves and strips of bright yellow along the leaf edges. The elongated sword-like leaves stand upright reaching lengths as long as six feet tall, growing in a stiff rosette reaching six feet wide. The leaves outer edges have small brown hooks and it has a sharp, spiny dark colored tip on each leaf. Agave Americana has many variegated forms showing distinctions in the colors.

Agave Americana, produces a flower stalk only once in its lifetime, after ten to twenty years. The flower stalk grows to twenty feet or more, producing exotic, pale yellow blossoms. After blooming, the mother plant dies. The flowers are edible and the long stalks are used to make didgeridoos.  Agave Americana will not bloom in a pot.
